Just finished testing Houdini’s feather system using Vellum for simulation and Houdini Hair — all within the USD workflow in Solaris. The whole thing was rendered using Husk and Karma with a procedural MaterialX setup.
What you see is straight from the render — no post or compositing involved! The goal was to explore how feathers behave in the USD/Solaris pipeline, and I’ve learned a lot through the process.
Big Bird seemed like the perfect test subject to keep things simple and fun. Now that I’ve wrapped my head around USD and the feather system a bit more, I’m looking forward to taking on more complex creatures next.
